Savdhan India 2 — DD National

The Brief

Savdhan India 2 was a crime-awareness anthology serial for DD National — each episode presenting a self-contained story dramatising a real-world crime scenario and its resolution. The anthology format meant each episode had to function as a standalone unit, making editorial rhythm and VFX consistent across every instalment critical. The production required full post-production including editing, sound, and basic visual effects for reconstruction sequences.

The Challenge

Anthology formats present unique challenges compared to continuous serials. Because each episode is a standalone story, there are no prior-episode conventions to fall back on during editing — each cut must establish its own world and pace within a tight episode duration. The crime-drama genre also required specific editorial techniques: tension-building, time-lapse reconstruction of events, and careful use of sound design to create urgency without sensationalism appropriate for a public broadcaster. The volume of episodes within the production window was significantly higher than a typical weekly serial.

Our Approach

We built a scalable post pipeline specifically for the anthology format. Rather than running a single-suite serial workflow, we developed a parallel-lane editorial system that allowed two editors to work simultaneously on different episodes at the same stage of the pipeline, with the supervising editor reviewing and approving each before it moved to finishing. This doubled our throughput without compromising quality control.

Sound design was standardised into a palette suited to the crime-drama genre — a set of tension, impact, and resolution cues that could be deployed consistently across episodes while allowing episode-specific variations. This reduced audio post time per episode significantly once the palette was established.

The Outcome

The full episode order was delivered on schedule with consistent editorial and audio quality across every instalment. DD National's programming team noted the consistency of tone across the run as a particular strength. The production company engaged A Plus Edits for the subsequent season.
