The Brief

AdiShakti Matarani was a mythological serial centred on the divine feminine — a genre that on Indian television demands elaborate VFX treatment as a baseline expectation. Every major scene involving the deity required aura effects, divine light emanations, environment transformations, and celestial backgrounds. The production required A Plus Edits to function as a full visual effects partner in addition to the editorial and audio post roles.

The Challenge

Mythological serials have a very high audience familiarity with the visual conventions of the genre — viewers expect specific visual qualities for divine moments and will immediately notice if the effects feel thin or under-rendered. Creating broadcast-quality divinity effects on a television budget and schedule requires extremely efficient compositing workflows and a clear visual bible that can be executed consistently by multiple artists. Any inconsistency in the visual treatment of the divine character would undermine the audience's connection to the story.

Our Approach

We created a VFX bible for the show in pre-production, establishing every type of divine effect — aura, glow, energy emanation, environment transformation, particle systems — as a reusable template. Each template was built in After Effects and DaVinci Fusion with parameters that could be adjusted per scene without rebuilding from scratch. This templated approach reduced VFX time per shot by approximately 60% compared to building each effect from scratch.

Colour grading was used as a first layer of visual enhancement — a warm, golden-hour base grade for divine scenes created a visual distinction between earthly and celestial environments before any VFX were applied. This reduced the amount of VFX required to create the otherworldly feel, as the grade itself was doing significant visual work.

The Outcome

AdiShakti Matarani ran its full commissioned episode count with consistently high visual quality that was praised by both the broadcaster and the production company. The show was one of A Plus Edits' most technically demanding television projects and established our VFX capability for the mythological genre — resulting in referrals from other mythological productions.
