The Brief

Rajat Rekha required A Plus Edits to handle the complete editorial pipeline for a DD National family drama serial. The production company needed a reliable post partner capable of managing high volumes of multi-camera footage, ensuring editorial rhythm suited to the emotional tone of the drama, and delivering broadcast-ready masters consistently each week.

The Challenge

Family drama serials demand a very specific editorial sensibility — pacing that allows emotional beats to breathe without losing momentum. Over-cutting kills drama; under-cutting kills engagement. Maintaining this balance across a long-form weekly series, with a rotating crew of junior editors contributing to the assembly, required strong editorial supervision and consistent style guidelines. Additionally, the sound environment of the show — predominantly dialogue-heavy with subtle background design — needed careful mixing to broadcast specification.

Our Approach

We established a house editing style guide in the first three episodes that captured the show's rhythm and tone. This guide was used to brief all editors who touched the project, ensuring consistency regardless of which team member handled a given episode's assembly. The senior editor reviewed all cuts before colour and audio finishing.

Sound mixing was handled entirely in-house with our audio post team, using the show's established audio palette — warm indoor acoustic environments, controlled music cue levels, and clean ADR replacement where needed. All masters were delivered to Doordarshan's technical specification without exception.

The Outcome

Rajat Rekha ran for its full commissioned series and was well-received by DD National's programming team. The consistency of the editorial voice across the run was noted as a distinguishing factor. The production company continued to work with A Plus Edits on subsequent projects within the same genre.
